Adopt a River

The pioneering initiative, Community Action for Fresh Water (CAFW), stands as Rotarys flagship collaboration with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). This program unites Rotary members with local communities and partners, emphasizing the protection, restoration, and sustainability of freshwater ecosystems. The strategic partnership, set in motion in 2023, underscores Rotarys global commitment to environmental stewardship. This collective effort signifies a dedicated commitment to the preservation and enhancement of freshwater ecosystems. In line with this commitment, the Rotary Club of Kolkata Benevolence from District 3291 embraced the responsibility of adopting the Jaggatdal River in the Indian Sunderbans, which flows into the Bay of Bengal, on February 10. Activities included clean up river bank, remove all plastics, spread awareness among local people and engage children to take up cleanup every month as first step of adopting the river.
