Plantation of Mangrove Trees

We, Rotary Club of Calcutta Metropolitan decided to work on Mangrove plantation in Sundarbans area. It was a joint project with Rotary club of Calcutta Pointers. The plantation has to be done in the muddy shore area to save the land from erosion as well as to save the farm land from salinity. Our President Rtn Rakesh Kumar Goel was courageous enough to shift from Motor launch to a dinghy (very risky) and then to be rowed to the plantation area and then to plant Mangrove trees in muddy soil, which was very slippery. We planted our 1000 Mangrove trees. We had support of the local women who were very fast in this work and worked alongside us to expedite the plantation.
