Chess for Mindfulness as part of CHESSMATE - International Chess Fellowship of Rotarians 30 Jul 2023

This project promotes the use of Chess to retard chronic dementia, improve learning ability and mental health. The Host club is RC of Newbies and RC of Calcutta Pointers is the co-host. The event had. - 1. A lecture on how learning and playing chess prevents and/or improves cognition and 2. Teaching basic chess methods to the uninitiated ,some of whom would then act as trainers. The lecture was given by RCCP Rtn Dr Kaushik Sil, renowned Neurosurgeon. The chess moves were taught by a Grandmaster. The target audience are 1) Senior citizens and/or adults with early presenile dementia and 2) Children with learning disability. This is a repeatable project to be taken to schools and old age homes
