Awareness on plastic pollution and cleaning
Today at Udbhash, we initiated our yearlong project: mission plastic purge. Dr. Punarbasu Chaudhuri, faculty, Environmental Sc., University of Calcutta gave an engrossing awareness lecture to 23 bright young students of Udbhash. Dr. Chaudhuri through audio visual presentation showed how our indiscriminate usage of plastics is destroying the world of terrestrial and marine animals and birds. The students asked a lot of meaningful questions and took a pledge not to use plastic straws or single use plastic bottles in future. Then they were given a short training on how to clean plastics with the help of wooden planks, sticks, gloves and a sack.
Then the charged up students with gloves on with extreme enthusiasm went out of the Udbhash premises and cleaned the neighbourhood of plastics. Within 15 mins, 3/4 of the sack we provided was full and the students were elated to have contributed to some meaningful environmental project.
